Thomas Walgrave

Born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1965, Thomas studied History of Art and Cognitive Anthropology, and specialized in the nomadic societies of the Sahara and Sahel. From 1986 until 1992 collaborator of the Antwerp arts Centre Monty (promotion and production). Worked with a large number of Flemish, Dutch and international companies, among others Forced Entertainment (UK), Peter Halash & Love Theatre (US/Hungary) and Maatschappij Discordia. Since 1991 a core member of theatre company TG STAN (BE), collaborating in over 50 productions as light, set and/or graphic designer. Worked (and sporadically continues to work) as light and/or set designer with various choreographers and theatre companies, in Portugal and abroad. Since 2009 artistic director of the Lisbon based performing arts organization alkantara. In this function runs a residency place (espaço alkantara) as well as a biennial international performing arts festival, the Alkantara Festival. Teaches light design and programming strategies.
